Immigrant ohh Immigrant...

Morning World!

Gosh.

Usually I woke up in the morning, showers, put on my outfit and, yes, update my Status Update on FB. Made possible by my trusted Blackberry.

But today, I woke up... and I blinked. Damn. All these thoughts but I am not sharing this in FB. It runs around in circles; neither here nor there. I thought of my work, my outfit... and hell, suddenly something strike me - the sound of a blasting radio from ground floor, playing some unfamiliar songs in a foreign language.

Yes. I am going to talk about...immigrant.

You see, my grandparents were immigrants. They traveled from Indonesia, from the far island of Java. At that time it was under the occupation of the Dutch. Running away from proverty and colonial oppression, my grandaddy decided to sail off (yes, sail) to Malaya. He met my grandma, and the rest is.. well, history. I am a byproduct, by the way :)

But way back then, immigrants, all they know was to work damn hard. Be them Chinese or Indians, when they were sent here as cheap labours by the Brits, their main intention is to get lotsa money to be sent home, and eventually buy their freedom from their masters. No hanky panky. (Maybe a bit of mafia and kongsi gelap here and there, but that's another story) But after a while, they just stayed. These are the people who made Malaysia their home, built this country and make Malaysia the melting pot of different races and backgrounds.

Nowadays however, it's a different story.

How many of you have heard of the following scenarios:

  1. Kacau anak dara orang
  2. Pecah rumah
  3. Pukau
  4. Amah bawak lari anak dengan curi duit
  5. Pembunuh upahan (I watched a documentary on this)
  6. Buang anak (yes, I always suspected that)
  7. ..and in my case, pasang radio, memekak malam2 main gitar kat bawah rumah.
...and I believe a myriad of other social illness that has been bothering us people.

Have you ever went to any restaurants to be served by Myanmar waiters? I had my fair share. I know that they are cheap labour, they look like locals, but hell, some of them cannot even speak the language! English? God!

And I haven't even touched on the "invasion" of African students. Pardon me if I am seen as insensitive BUT I know some of them just get a student's visa and ends up working here. Remember all the gangs that printed fake money who were nabbed few years back?

Or can you still remember the Bangladeshis? "Merah, Hijau, Lama, Baru? But I know most Bangla nows run to Middle East. Gaji lebih besar (katanya..but I know working condition there is waaaaayyy worse than here)

So you see, I think we had a problem with immigrants. They made themselves TOO comfortable here. And I don't know whether our local authorities are serious about handling this prob. I know that this is some kind of thorn on the government as well; we need cheap labour to fill in the support system that is NOT too favourable by us local people. We need maids, waiters, contruction workers... but we also need our peace!

So that...malam2, aku takyah la hatch a plan untuk bancuh air oren campur round-up and bagi mangkuk2 Myanmar kat bawah rumah tu supaya mampus terus dan tak lagi memekak malam2...

  1. Babe, aku dgn Jimmy were served by a Bangladeshi waiter in Rome. Dah la boleh ckp italian, pandai cakap Melayu lagi tu, sbb dia pernah kerja kat Singapore...talk about globalisation, man...but utk yg honestly want to make a living, aku mmg respek la, sbb keadaan dlm negara diorang sungguh teruk, yg menyebabkan diorang merantau untuk survive, which I don't think I will ever have the guts to do. Those yg ada intention lain tu, mmg "kau akan terima balasan Allah kelak"..itu je yg aku mampu ucapkan.

Btw, aku baru dpt maid...alhamdulillah - so far, so good. Hopefully it stays that way.

  2. :)Good for you since you have a better experience. Aku plak selalunya mendengar yang tak berapa nak convincing.

Kalau stok yg memang beria-ia nak kerja aku tak de problem. Ni yang at the same time tu menjadi duri dalam daging dalam masyarakat setempat tu yg menyebabkan aku hangin. Contoh yg memekak malam2 buta kat rumah aku tu la. :(
